This site Under Constant Construction!
The coming of WinAmp™ brought about a whole new digital audio revolution. Although the MP3 audio format has been around for while, it's potential was not fully realized by the masses. Justin Frankel, the creator of WinAmp™, has brought us into the light, and has presented us a new world of audio. WinAmp™ has reportedly been downloaded more than 10 million times, and copies of the shareware program has been circulated across the Internet community. So, there are definitely lots WinAmp™ users are out there.
WinAmp™ was closely followed by a newer technology--streaming audio. In January of 1999, ShoutCast™ was unleashed into the Internet. ShoutCast™ allows anyone to become an Internet Broadcasting station, streaming digital quality audio to listeners all over the world. ShoutCast™ was followed up by a new product, MP3Spy™, which allows listeners to see available broadcasting stations, and even chat with the DJ's and other listeners while listening to digital audio. This new technology is taking off fast, and putting new DJ's on the air everyday. If you haven't checked out these hot technologies, stop right here, and do so NOW!
We'll wait!
But if you know about these great technological advances, then you know why we're here. Our concept is to provide material for Internet Broadcasters to re-broadcast via the Internet free from any legal hassles.
In the wake of the MP3 revolution, the Record Industry Association of America (RIAA) is making things difficult for ShoutCast™ers. However, it IS illegal to rebroadcast copyright material. There is a massive concern over the recording industry losing money to pirated MP3 files. And rightly so. MP3 files are so readily available on the Internet that Lycos™, a major Internet Search Engine has set up a site dedicated to locating MP3 files. Does this tell you how big of a revolution this is becoming?? On college campuses across the nation, an estimated 75% of students are music pirates, according to one report. With more and more ShoutCast™ stations going up, it is easy to record MP3 files of Top 40 hits, as well as almost any other genre of music available today. And with the falling prices of CD recorders, it has become very easy to make your own CD/Digital quality recording of your favorite music, without paying the high industry prices to get it.
Therefore, we propose to provide ShoutCast™ broadcasters an alternative to pirated music. The Internet Broadcasters Independent Network was designed to help contribute material for re-broadcast to the Internet, and share material that could be broadcast without legal hassles from the RIAA.
With so many unsigned artists in the world, it would benefit the artists and the broadcasters to come together to share this material with the world. Anyone wishing to allow ShoutCast™ broadcast stations to broadcast digital quality recordings of their material can write us here @
